The Legacies of 1989 in Exhibition Histories
Lecture by Lucy Steeds, Senior Lecturer in Art at the Edinburgh College of Art (ECA), University of Edinburgh.
This talk will consider a number of exhibition initiatives all taking place in or around 1989: ‘Magiciens de la Terre’ in Paris; ‘The Other Story’ in London; and biennial editions in Havana, São Paulo and Venice. It will ask: what are the legacies of these projects for subsequent exhibitions, on the one hand, and museum collections of art, on the other?
