New essay in NYT on the systematic deletion of government data in the United States
Associate Professor Nanna Bonde Thylstrup co-authored a guest essay in The New York Times titled "Politicians Shouldn't Get to Delete Inconvenient Facts," published on 11 April, 2025.
The article, written with Richard Ovenden (head of the Bodleian Libraries at Oxford), examines the concerning trend of systematic deletion of government data in the United States under the current administration. Drawing on findings from the DALOSS project, the essay argues for stronger legal frameworks to protect public knowledge.
The piece highlights how the intentional erasure of scientific data, health guidelines, and historical information threatens both public wellbeing and democratic accountability.
