Performance Art as Critical Knowledge Production: Reclaim Despotism. Rethinking an Education of Performance Art in Denmark

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperResearchpeer-review

  • Sofie Volquartz Lebech
This paper discusses performance art as a mode of producing knowledge that challenges an instrumentalisation of art as well as a standardisation of academic methods. Performance art produces knowledge that overflows our common understanding of what knowledge can be while at the same time running the risk of mimicking the neoliberal demand for continuous knowledge production. On the backdrop of her current work as a practice-based PhD Fellow, Lebech focuses on the entanglement between research and art and discusses the drawbacks and potentials of this development within art and academia.
