Salomons Dom, which premiered at the Royal Danish Theatre on 29 October 1817 on the occasion of the queen's 50th birthday, was a Danish adaption of Caigniez' melodrama, Le jugement de Salomon (1802). The Danish version of the play did not use the original music of the French melodrama, but a new score was arranged, using posthumous manuscripts by F.L.Ae. Kunzen, who had died earlier that same year. The article investigates the transformation of the play from its French to its Danish version, particularly with respect to its musico-dramatic structure.
