Primary fields of research

I examen the ways in which modern satirical artworks have reacted to different kinds of censorship from the beginning of the 19th century until today. I primarily investigate visual artworks and literature from Europe and the US.    

In my previous research, I have investiagaed the history of religious satire in Europe and different representations of affects and atmospheres in literature. 

I am director the CEMES research group European Cultures of Laughter and member of the research cluster Doing Cultural History.
