Louis Ravn

Research Assistant

Louis Ravn is a research assistant on the ERC-funded research project Data Loss: The Politics of Disappearance, Destruction, and Dispossession in Digital Societies (DALOSS) (PI: Nanna Bonde Thylstrup). He holds an MSc in Science and Technology in Society from the University of Edinburgh, and a BSc in Digital Management from the Copenhagen Business School. He has also been an exchange student at the University of Pennsylvania. Previously, he has worked as a student assistant on the AI REUSE project, funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark.

His research focuses on the expectations, imaginaries, and politics of emergent data technologies, most recently synthetic data. In his MSc dissertation, which won the best dissertation award, he investigated the hype around synthetic data from a sociology of expectations perspective. In the context of DALOSS, he studies how the Danish National Archives navigate the intricacies of the collection, processing, and deaccessioning of digital data. His research has been published in Internet Policy Review, and he has been a presenter at multiple leading STS conferences, including at 4S.

Additionally, he is a co-organizer of the “Critical Data and AI Lecture Series” (with Nanna Bonde Thylstrup), running from March to September 2024. The lecture series brings together scholars from different backgrounds, working to establish a cross-disciplinary critical dialogue on emergent issues around data and AI.
